History of GVI
GVI was founded as Girard Video in 1983 by Jacques Girard, a director and cameraman for the United Nations and the Canadian Broadcasting Company. Our first years were spent shooting news and documentaries for foreign broadcasters and providing video production services in Washington, DC.
By 1990 we were providing all the creative and technical services needed to produce projects in-house. Andy Hemmendinger (then Vice President) bought the company in 1995 and renamed it GVI. The next year we moved into our current video production facility in the heart of Washington, DC’s business district.
GVI is dedicated to first-class customer service, superior production quality and maintaining a great working environment. Our people have worked for television stations, networks, foreign broadcasters, independent video production companies and major associations before coming to GVI. In an industry with widespread turnover, we’re proud of the fact that half of our twelve staff members have been with us more than ten years.
